The peaceful and gorgeous town of Fairfax is approximately 30 minutes North of San Francisco. Many of the residents would agree that it's the perfect balance between a strong, like-minded community and "the real world". This is a town that takes great pride in its chosen "green" lifestyle. In fact, on any given day you may notice that the car to bicycle ratio is the strongest in all of Marin.
The downtown is made up of boutiques, bars & restaurants, coffee shops, a bike shop, a historic movie theater and one of the best grocery stores in all of Marin, Good Earth. Don't expect to see a Starbucks; there are ordinances in place that prohibit chain stores, plastic bags, and Styrofoam takeout food packaging. "Only in Fairfax" is a motto that most of locals are proud of.
Although many of the beautiful and historic homes have a Craftsman look and feel, the housing stock is as eclectic as the residents. Fairfax is considered more affordable compared to many of the other towns within the county. There are three fantastic public schools, Virginia Avenue Elementary, Shirley Lane Elementary, and Fairfax Middle School, all of which are strongly supported by parents.
